Key points
- Sony silently released a new version og the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition in Europe.
- The new version only features 825GB of internal storage compared to the past version of 1TB.
- Sony still has not made an announcement regarding the new version of the console.
First spotted by trusted video games industry leaker, billbil-kun, it seems that Sony has silently rolled out the CFI-2116 version of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition, which only features 825GB of internal storage instead of the previous 1TB.
Worse of all, there are no differences in prices. This means that those who will buy this new version would pay full price for only around 82% of the original console’s internal storage before the revision.
While the reduction of around 200GB doesn’t seem huge at first glance, a lot of small indie games, such as Stardew Valley and Balatro will be able to fit in there. When it comes to Triple AAA games, players might be able to fit in one or two of their personal favorites.
This new revision of the PlayStation 5 Digital Edition is called the Chassis E, and it’s currently unclear why Sony has downgraded its storage. The most popular theory revolves around the company trying to balance out profits without hiking the prices of the console again, which already happened.
As of now, the console revision is only available in Europe, with no indication of whether it will appear in the US markets. Sony is still silent regarding the revision of the console, and no announcement has been made.
