Key points

  1. Beginning in December, Fortnite developers can begin selling in-game items directly on their Fortnite islands for V-Bucks.
  2. Developers will earn 50% of the V-Bucks revenue in their islands.
  3. For a limited time from December 2025 until the end of 2026, the rate will be 100%.

Epic Games is granting Fortnite developers the ability to directly sell in-game for V-Bucks on their Fortnite islands. The feature joins Fortnite in December. Fortnite developers will be able to earn 100% of the V-Bucks revenue until the end of 2026. After that, developers can earn 50% of the V-Bucks.

In an official announcement post, Epic detailed the method by which the company determines the V-Bucks pricing when compared to the US dollar. The developers will use a Verse-based API and new UEFN tools to create purchasable durable items and consumable items.

In addition to the microtransaction support, Fortnite creators will still receive compensation based on player engagement in their islands. The payout formula places 40% of the net revenue from Fortnite’s Item Shop and microtransactions into the engagement pool, according to Epic.

“Creators that bring in new or lapsed players will receive 75% of those players’ contributions to the engagement payout pool for their first six months,” Epic Games’ statement reads. Since the launch of UEFN, players have spent over 11.2 billion hours on creator-made islands, with over $722 million paid out to creators. Additionally, the launch of Fortnite Creator Communities is planned to allow creators to connect with their players.
