Key points

  1. The DualSense wireless controller pairing across multiple devices feature rolled out with the new PS5 update on Sept. 16, 2025.
  2. The update also brought a new Power Saver mode that enables supported games on PS5 to run with lower power consumption.
  3. Pairing across multiple devices allows users to connect up to four different units.

The DualSense wireless controller pairing across multiple devices feature was added with the new PlayStation 5 system software update, which was rolled out on Sept. 16, 2025.

Sony hinted at the update in June 2025 with a post on X (formerly Twitter), as was reported by Gaming.News.

Pairing across multiple devices allows users to connect up to four different units, as the number of available slots is limited by the DualSense’s action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, and square) each corresponding to a single slot.

Notably, DualSense controllers are designed to support a variety of devices beyond PlayStation 5, including Windows and macOS PCs, as well as Android and iOS mobile devices.

The update also brought a new Power Saver mode that enables supported games on PlayStation 5 to run with lower power consumption and reduce environmental impact. Sony highlighted that future updates for games such as Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Demon’s Souls, and the upcoming Ghost of Yōtei will include support for the Power Saver option, with more titles to follow.

How to pair DualSense controller to multiple devices

By pressing a combination of the PS button and one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square), users can assign a device to the desired slot.

If a USB cable is connected to the controller, it should be disconnected before pairing.

  1. Make sure the light bar and player indicator on your controller is off. If they’re turned on, press and hold the PS button until they turn off.
  2. Press and hold one of the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) and the PS button for over 5 seconds. The light bar and player indicator flash two times.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth® on your device, and select the option to add Bluetooth® devices. Your device detects nearby Bluetooth® devices.
  4. Select your controller from the detected devices. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.

How to switch devices

Once the device is registered on the controller, users can switch between devices by pressing the PS button and the action buttons (triangle, circle, cross, or square) corresponding to a slot. Players can do this when the controller is turned on or off.

  1. Turn on the device you want to connect to.
  2. Press and hold one of the action buttons and the PS button for about 3 seconds. When the light bar and player indicator blink, release both buttons. The light bar lights up, and the player indicator’s lights blink according to the slot number.
