On Sept. 16, 2025, Skate, the latest entry to EA’s Skate franchise, entered early access. Players can now download the game on their respective platforms for free, as the developers have adopted a free-to-play scheme for the first time in the series.
A press release accompanying the announcement said that the game will fully support cross-platform and cross-progression between the different consoles and platforms on which the game is available.
Skate will also add new areas, challenges, events, brand partners, cosmetics and music each season. The first season of the game will begin in October and will bring two seasonal events, a battle pass, updates and more.
Seasons 2 and 3 will add features such as party voice chat, replay editor improvements, new character customization options, leaderboards and new tricks, such as Impossibles and Darkslides.
The Flick-It system will also make a return to the game after being absent for years. The press release said that it was “meticulously resurrected and expanded for even more precision and depth of control.”
The last Skate game, Skate 3, was released in 2010, a time when a Skate game was being released annually.
