In a patch note released on Sept. 17, 2025, Bungie announced that it is changing the current Iron Banner earnable armor set to the Ancient Majesty set, an armor set from Destiny 2’s cash shop, from the current one, which was found to be just a reskin from six years ago.
The fiasco started when a concept artist working for Bungie uploaded a concept art of the Gladius armor set on a now-deleted Artstation post by Ben Low. While it looked normal at first, fans were quick to point out that the set had the Iron Banner tree in the chestplate, which meant that it was meant to be an earnable set in the first place.

This made fans very mad, and Reddit threads were made to show their frustration. In response, Destiny 2 developers made an X post regarding the change of the current Iron Banner armor set and the “overall state of the unique and compelling earned rewards.”
They mentioned that “the overall balance in paid and earned armor cosmetics is off this season and we’re aiming to adjust our approach to earned rewards in the future.” While they did say that they are changing the current Iron Banner armor set, they also added that the Iron Beryllium will be available on a later date.
With the change, the developers are also removing the Ancient Majesty set from the Eververse store. “There will be a temporary issue where the gear will still show the Iron Beryllium set’s original icons – we will fix this in a future patch,” the developers added.
Recently, Destiny 2 developers hopped on stream to introduce the new features coming up in its next major expansion, Renegades, which was inspired by Star Wars. The expansion will be released on Dec. 2, 2025.
