Sonic Racing: CrossWorld’s latest trailer openly called out its direct competitor: Mario Kart. In the trailer, the narrator begins the video by saying “we all know that kart racing game, it’s great. We don’t need to show it to you,” while presenting a mosaiced gameplay of what appears to be Mario Kart.
The music then immediately shifts to a more upbeat, intense soundtrack, showcasing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds gameplay, which is attached to a race-car.
In contrast, the monitor presenting the supposed Mario Kart gameplay is attached to an aged RV, which creaks as it hobbles forward – the race car, unsurprisingly, zooms around in comparison.
“What if you want to roam around on the open-road,” the narrator states in a dull voice, allegedly calling out Mario Kart World’s open mechanics. The comments on the YouTube video holler at the call out, enjoying the reawakening of the rivalry between the two kart racers.
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds releases on Sept. 25, 2025 for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. The Switch 2 version of the game is coming later in the year, and the title supports full cross-platform play.
