Borderlands 4 Shoots Past 300K Concurrent Players on Steam

Borderlands 4, the big release of September 2025 alongside Hollow Knight: Silksong, has reached more than 300,000 players on Steam alone. The game currently records a 304,398 peak concurrent players on Steam, which was set on Sept. 14, 2025.
While it is currently celebrating the number one spot on Steam’s top sellers category, the game is not immune to criticism from those who have bought it. Its review score is currently mixed, with only 63% of the players leaving positive reviews and the others leaving negative.
On X, Gearbox Software’s CEO, Randy Pitchford, has been tweeting about the game and its development, saying things like “Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers,” and “every PC gamer must accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and what the software they are running is doing.”
Additionally, Pitchford also mentioned that Borderlands 4 is built to take advantage of DLSS. “The game was built to take advantage of it. This is not a competitive FPS,” he said in a tweet.
Borderlands 4 was released on Sept 12, 2025, on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Nintendo Switch 2 version is planned, with a tentative launch date of Oct. 5, 2025.
