Borderlands 4, the big release of September 2025 alongside Hollow Knight: Silksong, has reached more than 300,000 players on Steam alone. The game currently has a peak of 304,398 concurrent players on Steam, which was set on Sept. 14, 2025.
While it is currently celebrating the No. 1 spot in Steam’s top sellers category, the game is not immune to criticism. Its review score is currently “Mixed,” with only 63% of the players leaving positive reviews.
On X, Gearbox Software CEO Randy Pitchford has been posting about the game and its development, saying, “Borderlands 4 is a premium game made for premium gamers,” and “Every PC gamer must accept the reality of the relationship between their hardware and what the software they are running is doing.”
Additionally, Pitchford also said that Borderlands 4 is built to take advantage of DLSS. “The game was built to take advantage of it. This is not a competitive FPS,” he said in an X post.
