Ubisoft has reportedly laid off nine members of its publishing team. The layoffs are part of Ubisoft’s commitment to restructuring the company in an effort to ensure the smooth launch of a new subsidiary, backed by a $1.25 billion investment from Tencent. Game Developer reported the initial story; the media outlet spoke with an Ubisoft representative on the matter.
“As part of this, some of our production and publishing teams will be transitioned to other Ubisoft brands and projects,” the Ubisoft spokesperson told Game Developer, referencing the restructuring effort.
“Unfortunately, nine roles, primarily within our publishing team, are directly impacted. We are committed to providing support to everyone affected by this change.”
The Tencent-backed subsidiary within Ubisoft will “focus on building game ecosystems designed to become truly evergreen and multi-platform,” according to an official Ubisoft announcement that was released on March 27, 2025.
The investment is marketed to drive further quality in narrative solo experiences and also expand upon multiplayer experiences with more frequent content release by integrating more social features and free-to-play experiences. Ubisoft previously published its goal of improving its three biggest franchises, Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six, with the substantial investments from Tencent.
