Sony debuted its PlayStation Family App, allowing parents to manage their children’s gaming experience through playtime and age restrictions for games. The app was released on Sept. 10, 2025, for both iOS and Android devices.
In the official blog statement announcing the app’s release, Cory Gasaway, VP of Product Management at Sony Interactive Entertainment, stated that they are committed to providing safe play for gamers of all ages.
The app provides a “thoughtfully guided experience” for setting up a child account. It provides real-time notifications of what the child is playing, allowing the app user to approve or decline a child’s request for extra playtime, restricted games, and communicate from a mobile device.
At the end of each day and week, the app provides activity reports that share playtime analytics. These can be used to help guide the user’s decision to set playtime limits each day of the week. The child can ask for additional playtime if desired; the app user can approve or decline the requests. The PlayStation Family App also allows the user to manage spending by checking funds, viewing balances, and setting monthly spending limits for purchases made within the PlayStation Store.
In addition, the parent can choose and configure age-appropriate content and customize privacy settings to manage how the child connects with others online. The app is compatible with iOS version 14 and Android 8 or higher.
