Key points
- G2 won Blast Open London against the world’s number one CS2 team, Vitality.
- The grand final went the distance, ending with the decider map of Train.
- The next big Counter-Strike 2 tournament is Fissure Playground 2.
G2 clinched victory against the best Counter-Strike 2 team in the world, Team Vitality, in a series that went its full length at Blast Open London. The team has now won an S-Tier tournament in 308 days, with the last one being at Blast Premier: World Final 2024 against Team Spirit.
The two teams kept the games really entertaining for the viewers with explosive plays from star players such as Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut from Team Vitality, who ended the series with the highest kills out of all the players. However, it isn’t his team that took the victory, but the well-oiled machine that is G2.
The grand final of Blast Open London has reached the distance, with G2 taking a dominant win at Team Vitality’s Dust 2 pick. Vitality fired back with a win in Mirage and Overpass, but G2 managed to claw back in Inferno, winning in overtime.
This series of events took the players to the fifth and final map of the finals, which is Train. Here, G2 showed dominance once more, finishing the map with a 13-6 record and further putting Team Vitality’s reign into question.
G2’s win not only ended their drought for S-tier trophies, but it also provided two of its players with their first one. Both Nikita “HeavyGod” Martynenko and Matúš “matys” Šimko never won an S-tier trophy before Blast Open London.
The next S-tier tournament for Counter-Strike 2 is Fissure Playground 2. The event will start on Sept. 12 and end on Sept. 21. G2 will be participating in it, together with other top-tier teams such as The MongolZ and Team Falcons, but Team Vitality appears to be skipping this event.
