Key points
- Hollow Knight: Silksong surpassed 500,000 concurrent players on Steam alone on day one.
- The game crashed the store pages for Steam immediately on release.
- PlayStation Store, Xbox Store, and Nintendo eShop also experienced issues on launch.
Hollow Knight: Silksong surpassed half a million concurrent players on Steam during day one of its launch. As of writing, the peak concurrent player count hit 535,213. This number is for Steam alone; the total concurrent player count is expected to be much higher when taking into consideration other platforms.

Silksong’s release has been unprecedented, easily being the most anticipated indie game title of the past decade. In eager anticipation of the game, the game’s predecessor achieved a record high concurrent player count days prior to Silksong’s debut. Numerous other indie titles were delayed as a direct result of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s Sept. 4, 2025, release date.
Little Witch in the Woods slightly delayed its release date from Sept. 4, which would have directly competed with Hollow Knight: Silksong, to Sept. 15.
“Silksong is a game we look up to with awe as developers, and eagerly anticipate as players. Given its immense influence, we fear that launching Little Witch in the Woods on the same day would not only dishearten our dedicated team but also disappoint our devoted audience,” the team communicated on Aug. 26, 2025.
The game became available on Xbox Cloud, Windows PC via the Xbox app, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S for members of the Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscription plans. The game costs $19.99 and is available for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Steam Deck, along with Windows, Linux, and macOS PCs.
