Key points
- PlayStation announced a new PlayStation 5 controller called the Astro Bot Joyful DualSense controller.
- It is based on the game Astro Bot and is not the same as the 2024 controller based on the same game.
- PlayStation also did not reveal the price of the controller.
On Sept 3, 2025, Sony announced a new DualSense controller based on Astro Bot called the Astro Bot Joyful DualSense controller. Players will be able to get their hands on them on Oct. 30, but pre-orders will start on Sept. 12, 2025.
This can be a great substitute for those who were unable to obtain the previous Astro Bot controller in 2024. That being said, it’s not particularly a re-release of the controller sold last year, but an updated version of it.
The only difference between the Astro Bot controller from 2024 and the one from today lies in its touchpad. Last year had two big digital eyes staring at the player while they held the controller, while this year featured half-closed eyes showing a jubilant expression, hence the “Joyful” part in the official name of the controller.
Fans can pre-order the controller on the PlayStation website as well as “participating retailers,” but the post did not mention which retailers fans can expect to take pre-orders of the controller. Additionally, the post also did not reveal the price of the item.
