RTX 5070 Voted Most Popular Current-Gen GPU for Steam Hardware

Key points
- Nvidia’s RTX 5070 was voted the most popular current-generation GPU by Steam users in an August 2025 survey.
- The same survey indicates that older hardware, specifically the RTX 060 and 3060, are currently the most popular GPUs overall.
- None of AMD’s RDNA 4 cards made the top 100 list.
A Steam user survey conducted at the end of August revealed that Nvidia’s RTX 5070 is the most popular current-generation GPU, and that Nvidia’s RTX 4060 and 3060 are the currently most popular GPUs overall. The survey supposedly revealed that AMD’s RDNA 4 cards were not shown at all, despite AMD’s claims that the hardware saw immense demand.
This was stated in an exclusive interview with TechRadar, where AMD Corporate VP and General Manager David McAfee stated, “The biggest thing we are doing quite honestly is ramping supply of Navi 48, very aggressively the demand we saw on day one was really unprecedented and unprecedented across all the price points in the RDNA 4 product portfolio.”
AMD’s prices for RX 9070 and 9070 XT remain high, indicating that demand is still higher than the supply. The latest Steam survey is a skewed sample pool, as Steam users do not represent the entire market. If anything, the survey at least suggests that AMD is not manufacturing at a fast enough pace to directly compete with PC gamers for the month of Aug. 2025.
According to user claims, some AMD Radeon GPUs are registered as generic Radeon GPUs rather than a specific GPU model, thereby manipulating the survey in favor of Nvidia’s RTX 5070. The AMD Radeon(TM) Graphics and AMD Radeon Graphics are listed as 12th and 14th places, thereby making statistical conclusions of the data difficult.
It is worth noting that Nvidia saw a record high of $4.3 billion in gaming revenue, far surpassing that of AMD’s $1.1 billion.
