Hollow Knight Sets New Online Record as Its Sequel Prompts More Indie Delays

Hollow Knight has set a new record of online concurrent players on Steam, while its sequel has caused more indie titles to delay their release.
As for the original title of the series, 2017’s Hollow Knight, interest in the game has been rising since Aug. 21, 2025, the day when the game’s developer, Team Cherry, officially announced the sequel’s launch date set for Sept. 4, 2025.
Since then, the title has been reaching new peaks in concurrent players one after another, hitting its highest record (as of the time of writing) of 52,208 concurrent players on Aug. 28, 2025, according to SteamDB.
Notably, as of the time of writing, Hollow Knight has an “Overwhelmingly Positive” rating on Steam, with 389,187 reviews.
Regarding Hollow Knight: Silksong, the game continues to prompt indie studios to reschedule the launch of their games in order to avoid releasing too close to the so-called Grand Theft Auto VI of indies.
The roster of delayed titles which already includes Demonschool, Faeland, Stomp and the Sword of Miracles, Little Witch in the Woods, Aeterna Lucis, Baby Steps and Cloverpit has been expanded with games such as Lord Ambermaze, Comfy Girl, Kejora, Star Birds, Moros Protocol, and Megabonk.

Notably, just like its predecessor, Hollow Knight: Silksong is slated for release for Windows, Linux and macOS PCs, along with Steam Deck, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox One, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
