On Aug. 27, 2025, the free-to-play skateboarding game Skate was finally revealed to be entering early access on Sept. 16, 2025. Players will be able to play the game via PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
EA previously mentioned that players will always require a live connection, which means that the game won’t be playable offline. The developers said that this is due to the game and city being designed “to be a living, breathing massively multiplayer skateboarding sandbox that is always online and always evolving.”
In the same FAQ, the developers also addressed the fact that the game already has microtransactions in the playtest. They mentioned that “it’s the best way to properly assess and adjust the system before launch.” They also said that players will be refunded the amount of in-game currency they have spent on their account.
Skate is a sandbox massively multiplayer skateboarding game that acts as the series’ reboot. It is the fourth entry in the Skate franchise and will be freely available on PC and macOS, a first in the franchise. While the game is entering early access in September, its full release is still unknown.
