On Aug. 24, 2025, Mongolian esports organization The MongolZ finally claimed its very first S-tier trophy after beating Aurora Gaming at the Esports World Cup 2025. The team also beat Team Vitality at the tournament, the undisputed best team in Counter-Strike 2.
In the finals, The MongolZ surgically dismantled Aurora Gaming as the series progressed. The first map, Mirage, was the closest out of the three that were played in the grand final, where The MongolZ were able to push the game to overtime. The MongolZ were able to eclipse Aurora Gaming with a 16-14 record.
This would be the last time Aurora Gaming would get close to beating The MongolZ, as the next map, Dust II, resulted in 13-9 in favor of the latter. The last map, Nuke, essentially put the nail in the coffin, as a frustrated Aurora Gaming played horrendously, resulting in a 13-4 score and a 3-0 set count.
The third-place decider match in the tournament was between Team Falcons and Team Vitality. Placing third in the club championship ranking, a win against Team Falcons and taking third place would have propelled the organization into second place, beating Team Liquid and adding $1 million to its pocket.
However, Team Falcons had other ideas as the organization closed out the best-of-three set, heavily dismantling Team Vitality in the second and third maps, both ending in a 13-3 record in favor of the Falcons.
Counter-Strike 2’s next S-tier tournament is the Blast Open Fall 2025. A closed qualifier will happen leading up to it, determining which six teams out of 16 will play on the main stage.
