ROG Xbox Ally X Runs Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p/70fps Due to AMD FSR & Frame-Gen

ROG Xbox Ally X can run Doom: The Dark Ages at 1080p with 70fps, as revealed by Cary Golomb, the author of the YouTube channel The Phawx (PhawxTV), via a short video posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Basically functioning at 540p with 35 fps, the game in Golomb’s video is running with ray tracing enabled at custom low–medium settings, upscaled to 1080p/70 fps using AMD FSR and frame generation.

Golomb also highlighted that the device smartly manages power to keep performance and efficiency balanced, despite a high power draw of ~26 W in total (~18 W TDP).

On top of that, in his YouTube video dedicated to the ROG Xbox Ally X, Golomb also highlighted that the device currently doesn’t allow downloading games using other launchers like Steam or in the Xbox full-screen experiences, and requires switching to desktop mode.

Inside the ROG Xbox Ally: Game Access and Compatibility

ROG Xbox Ally (colored white) and ROG Xbox Ally X (colored black) will launch on Oct. 16, 2025, with the official price yet to be announced. Both models will feature AMD Ryzen Z2 APUs, with the low-end Ally featuring a Ryzen Z2 A (a quad-core processor based on Zen 2 microarchitecture with eight RDNA 2 graphics cores), and the Ally X featuring the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme (a hexa-core processor based on Zen 5 microarchitecture with sixteen RDNA 3.5 graphics cores and a neural processing unit).

The two models will feature 16 and 24 GB of LPDDR5X RAM respectively, and have 512 GB and 1 TB of internal storage respectively. Both models use a 7-inch, 120 Hz 1080p IPS LCD display with variable refresh rate.

Both devices will ship with Windows 11 on board with a special mode that boots the system directly into the Xbox app, without loading the full Windows shell by default.
