Yu Suzuki and ININ Games have announced an enhanced edition of Shenmue 3, which is described as “the most refined version yet of Ryo Hazuki’s epic journey.” The game’s enhanced edition also means that it will be released on new platforms.
The enhanced edition will include things such as improved textures and performance, DLSS support and even some gameplay tweaks. In addition to this, cutscene and conversation skip options will also be included, and the QTE timing window will be expanded “for more accessible gameplay.”
Aside from it being in development, not much is known about the game’s release window. However, the game will be released on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo. The announcement did not specify which Nintendo system it will be released on, but several outlets have reported that it will be out on the Switch 2.
The original Shenmue 3 was released in 2019. It went through a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter in 2015. The campaign stopped in 2018 after raising $7.1 million from 81,087 backers. Additionally, Sony and Deep Silver have also contributed to the fundraiser. According to Suzuki, the final budget of the game reached around $20 million.
Players who own the original Shenmue 3 on the PlayStation 4 and the PC will be able to upgrade to the new enhanced edition; however, the announcement did not clarify how players will be able to do it.
