Kirby Air Riders releases exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on Nov. 20, costing $69.99 on launch. The game’s preorder page became available on Aug. 19; purchasing preemptively allows players to pre-load the game. City Trial returns in Kirby Air Riders, supporting up to 16 players online and eight players in local wireless in a chaotic brawl across a city to acquire power-up items.
Characters joining the roster include King Dedede, Meta Knight, Chef Kaski, Magolor, Bandana Waddle Dee, Gooey, Cappy, Knuckle Joe, Susie, and Starman. The game features new machines unseen in the previous iteration of the title.
Masahiro Sakurai, the original creator of Kirby, was prompted to create Kirby Air Riders for the Nintendo Switch 2 after a request from Nintendo’s Head of Software Development, Shinya Takahashi, and Former HAL Laboratory President Satoshi Mitsuhara. Kirby Air Riders is a collaboration between Sora Ltd. and Bandai Namco Studios.
The first Kirby Air Riders was released on July of 2003, and sold over 1 million copies worldwide. Despite relatively low reviews, with Nintendo Life giving the game a 6 out of 10 and IGN a 5 out of 10, the game remains fondly remembered by the community of players.
