Zhong Kui is a legendary figure in Chinese folklore known as a demon slayer and protector against evil spirits. His worship and iconography spread beyond China, appearing in the folklore and mythology of Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. Zhong Kui’s image is traditionally used to ward off evil, especially during Chinese New Year, and he’s honored in various rituals and artworks across East Asia.

The reveal follows the massive success of Black Myth: Wukong, which launched in 2024 and has since sold more than 25 million copies worldwide (with 10 million purchased within three days of release). The game was initially available on PS5 and PC, with Xbox S|X port coming on August 20, 2025.
