Game Science has revealed Black Myth: Zhong Kui, the follow-up to its breakout hit Black Myth: Wukong, during Gamescom 2025 in Cologne. The announcement came with a teaser trailer that introduced Zhong Kui, a legendary demon-slayer from Chinese folklore, as the central figure of the sequel.

Zhong Kui is a legendary figure in Chinese folklore known as a demon slayer and protector against evil spirits. According to myth, he was a brilliant scholar who, after being denied success in the imperial exams due to his disfigured appearance, took his own life and was later appointed by the King of Hell to command ghosts and vanquish demons.

His worship and iconography spread beyond China, appearing in the folklore and mythology of Korea, Japan, and Vietnam. Zhong Kui’s image is traditionally used to ward off evil, especially during Chinese New Year, and he’s honored in various rituals and artworks across East Asia.

The reveal follows the massive success of Black Myth: Wukong, which launched in 2024 and has since sold more than 25 million copies worldwide (with 10 million purchased within three days of release). The game was initially available on PS5 and PC, with Xbox S|X port coming on August 20, 2025.
