Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill filed a lawsuit against Roblox, the number one gaming site for children and teens, for allegedly becoming “a breeding ground for sex predators.” The attorney general alleges that Roblox is overrun with harmful content and child predators because it prioritizes “user growth, revenue, and profits over child safety.”
According to the article communicating the lawsuit, 20% of Roblox users are under 9 years of age, 20% are 9-12, 16% are 13-16 and 44% are 17 or older. The lawsuit alleges the defendant (Roblox) has knowingly enabled and facilitated the systemic sexual exploitation and abuse of children across the United States, including in Louisiana.
Murill’s legal document claims Roblox does state it requires parental permission prior to signing up but does not have any safety features to prevent children from creating their own accounts and participating on the platform.
The legal document draws an example from July 15, 2025, where law enforcement officers executed a search warrant. The individual was suspected of owning child sexual abuse material and had been actively using Roblox; they had used voice-altering technology to mimic the voice of a young female, allegedly for luring and exploiting minors on the platform.
The lawsuit alleges Roblox’s business practices in relation to child safety violate the Louisiana Unfair Trade Practices Act and is seeking permanent injunctive relief, which is essentially a court order issued as a final judgment in a case.
Prior to the filing of the legal case, a YouTuber, Michael “Schlep,” was banned from Roblox; the content creator had exposed and caught six child predators on the gaming platform. The content creator’s Roblox account was terminated, and the corporation sent a cease and desist letter threatening potential legal action.
