Key points

  1. Roblox’s response is targeted towards allegedly erroneous claims and misconceptions about the platform’s safety.
  2. The company claims the platform introduced over 40 new features to “protect its youngest users and empower parents and caregivers with greater control.”
  3. Roblox claims it dedicates substantial resources to help detect and prevent inappropriate content and behavior.

Roblox published an official response to Louisiana’s Attorney General’s lawsuit, which alleges Roblox failed to protect children from sexual predators. The initial lawsuit was filed on Aug. 14, with the response coming a day after. Within Roblox’s response, the gaming platform caters its message towards addressing “erroneous claims and misconceptions” about the platform and its commitment to safety, according to the official statement

The gaming platform draws attention to its 40 new features implemented in the past year, which supposedly protect its youngest users and help parents gain more control. According to the response, Roblox dedicates “substantial resources to help detect and prevent inappropriate content and behavior.”

The official statement then brings up its Community Standards, and subsequently brings up its “advanced AI models together with a large, expertly trained team with thousands of members dedicated to protecting [their] users and monitoring 24/7 for inappropriate content.” The Trust & Safety team apparently takes fast action, responding within minutes, to address violations.

Roblox’s stock plummeted on Aug. 14, dropping from $124.65 to $113.80 overnight. Whether or not this stock drop influenced Roblox’s decision to make a public statement is unclear, but it is worth noting that “Roblox as a policy does not comment on pending litigation.” The response to the recent lawsuit was supposedly an exception. According to legal documents, 20% of Roblox users are under 9 years of age, 20% are 9-12, 16% are 13-16, and 44% are 17 or older.

A content creator who assisted in the arrest of six child predators was banned from the platform earlier this year; Michael “Sclep” received a cease and desist letter, threatening potential legal action against the YouTuber.
