Epic Games Store and Fortnite are returning to Apple’s iOS devices in Australia, following their removal from the App Store back in 2020, according to an announcement on the X (formerly Twitter) profile Epic Games Newsroom, posted on Aug. 12, 2025.
According to the announcement, the Australian court found that Apple and Google abuse their control over app distribution and in-app payments to limit competition.
Epic Games Newsroom also stated, “This is a WIN for developers and consumers in Australia!”
Fortnite was released in early access mode by Epic Games on July 25, 2017, titled Fortnite: Save the World. As of the time of writing, it is available in 10 distinct game mode versions that otherwise share the same general gameplay and game engine, subtitled Blitz Royale, OG, Zero Build, Battle Royale, Save the World, Creative, Lego, Rocket Racing, Festival and Ballistic, which is currently in early access. All Fortnite modes except Save the World are free-to-play.
The game is playable on macOS and Windows PCs, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android smartphones, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
The news comes on the heels of Google losing an appeal of a judge’s order, which required an overhaul of the tech giant’s app store policies after an antitrust case filed by Epic Games.
