Control’s lifetime sales exceeded 5 million copies, according to a financial report from the game’s developer, Remedy, which was published on Aug. 12, 2025.
Published by 505 Games, the game initially released on Aug. 27, 2019, and, as of the time of writing, is playable on PlayStation 4, Windows and macOS PCs, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, Nintendo Switch, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.
The game’s story revolves around the Federal Bureau of Control, a clandestine US government agency that investigates supernatural Altered World Events. Players follow Jesse Faden, who was chosen by the Board as the director of the FBC to replace the recently deceased Zachariah Trench.
Control has two expansions, The Foundation and AWE, which have come bundled with the base game as Control: Ultimate Edition since August 2020. In March 2025, Control: Ultimate Edition received a free update that added previously exclusive content, including pre-order bonuses, a PlayStation 4 mission featuring a Hideo Kojima cameo and various graphical enhancements.
