League of Legends WASD Controls to Enter PBE Testing

|
Key points
- Riot announced its intent to implement WASD controls for League of Legends.
- The WASD controls will be completely optional and will be tested in the PBE first.
- After PBE testing, the feature will be added to unranked modes and then ranked thereafter.
In Riot’s development update vlog, the company announced the debut of WASD controls in League of Legends. The control schematic is targeted towards new players and increases accessibility. Prior to its full implementation into ranked, the completely optional control schematic is being added into the PBE, then onto unranked modes. Ranked modes will adopt the option after numerous play tests in casual and PBE modes.
In addition, various new keybindings are being added. Players will be able to bind left-click on their mice without having to edit system files, a feature that has never been implemented in League of Legends. A new dynamic locked camera setting is being debuted as well. These updates, at least for their initial debut, will be locked to WASD control schematics at first, with mouse and keyboard control adopting the settings thereafter.
As of writing, the exact release date or general timeline for League of Legends WASD controls remains unknown. As communicated in the developer’s vlog, the new control schematic needs extensive play testing.
Wild Rift’s controls are reminiscent of WASD controls; the mobile version of League of Legends uses joystick controls. The mobile title saw criticism for AI marketing in China during late July.
