On Aug. 9, 2025, Rod Fergusson, the lead of the Diablo series since 2020, announced that he’s parting ways with Blizzard after five years. Fergusson did not mention a specific reason for the departure, but said that the Diablo team is “set up for success.”

He added that the team has an “exciting slate of releases ahead” and that he’s proud of what they have accomplished. Finally, he ended his statement by saying that he’s “looking forward to what comes next for Diablo, and for me.”

Recently, Diablo IV entered its ninth season, Sins of the Horadrim, which revamped Nightmare Dungeons and added console keyboard and mouse support. Horadric Spells are also added to the game in addition to Escalating Nightmares.

Aside from huge Triple-A games, he has also been credited in games such as Microsoft Train Simulator, Infinity Blade, Unreal Tournament 3, and even Fat Princess, where he sent a “bunch of notes” that would improve the game, after playing the game for a couple of days, and was listed in the credits as gratitude from the developers.
