Bethesda Re-releases Heretic + Hexen for Modern Consoles and PC

On Aug. 7, 2025, Nightdive Studios announced during QuakeCon 2025 that they had worked together with id Software to re-release Heretic and Hexen to all modern platforms. Bethesda is calling this the “definitive re-release of Heretic + Hexen,” as it adds a few modern features to the game.
Heretic + Hexen now supports cross-platform online co-op and deathmatch multiplayer for up to 16 players. Those who like the game’s story will be surprised to find that there will be two new episodes added to the game. All in all, here’s what’s going to be included in the bundle:
- Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders
- Hexen: Beyond Heretic
- Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel
- Heretic: Faith Renewed
- Hexen: Vestiges of Grandeur
A “Raven Vault” will also be added to the game, which lets players take a look behind the scenes and see some concept art and sprites from the original game. The re-release will also allow players to toggle between the game’s classic and enhanced soundtracks.
Modding is also highly encouraged by the developers, as they allow people to upload their community mods if they so wish. Finally, Heretic + Hexen now supports 12 more translations, including Japanese, French, Korean and Italian.
Heretic + Hexen is available now for the PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC. The developer also noted that those who have the digital versions of Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic and/or Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel on Steam, Windows Store/Xbox Windows app and GOG will receive a free upgrade to the new combined Heretic + Hexen bundle.
