Digital Foundry (DF), a technology-focused media outlet and YouTube channel best known for its in-depth technical analysis of video games, gaming hardware, and graphics technology, announced on its official X (formerly Twitter) account that it has become fully independent.
“We’re excited and proud to announce that Digital Foundry is now fully independent, having parted ways amicably with IGN,” says the statement.
According to the special video on YouTube titled ‘DF Direct Special: Digital Foundry Leaves IGN, Now Fully Independent – So What Happens Next?’, Digital Foundry has bought IGN’s shareholding in the business and declares that from now on, they answer to nobody except the audience.
It is worth noting that since 2007, Digital Foundry’s content was hosted by the Eurogamer media outlet, which was sold to IGN Entertainment, a subsidiary of Ziff Davis, in May 2024.
Digital Foundry was founded in 2004 and began publishing tech analysis in 2007, followed by a YouTube channel launch in 2008. Founded and directed by Richard Leadbetter, Digital Foundry currently produces video content, as well as guides, reviews, and other articles. According to the outlet’s website, its team includes video producer Alex Battaglia; contributor Audi Sorlie; senior staff writer John Linneman; contributor Oliver Mackenzie; technology editor Richard Leadbetter; senior staff writer Tom Morgan; deputy editor Will Judd; and Richard Leadbetter as founder/director.
