Call of Duty’s anti-cheat system, RICOCHET, saw an update on Aug. 6, affecting players on either Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone. Within the update, the team communicated that they have taken legal action against 22 individuals caught creating cheats, with almost 40 cheat vendors shut down.
Each individual received a formal cease and desist demand letter; the team also dismantled their advertising services. The majority of the individuals have already responded, stating that they will comply with several vendors shutting down their services. The vendors that reopen under a new alias will face further legal action.
“This dual-pronged approach, hitting both supply and demand, sends an unmistakable message: we’re not only disrupting the market; we’re working to dismantle it,” Team RICOCHET stated.
Despite the update, the team is aware that cheating is still abundant and requires further attention.
“It’s an ongoing battle, but we’re in it for the long haul – and we’re not backing down. […] As part of our continued mission, we’re introducing new systems and security updates alongside Season 05 in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone that lay the groundwork for our future,” the team communicated in the blog.
In addition to the legal action against cheaters, thereby actively discouraging cheating at its source, the update strengthened game security by utilizing built-in Windows PC features, as according to the official blog. Within the blog, the team encourages users to protect their accounts by utilizing email verification and 2FA features.
A new boosting and teamers detection system has been implemented, removing suspected accounts from game leaderboards to increase Ranked Play integrity. The team is also conducting a deeper analysis of the leaderboards across both Call of Duty titles, committed towards the removal of all users who use Boosting and Teaming as a tactic to abuse the ranked ladder.
