On Aug. 6, 2025, Electronic Arts announced that the much-awaited Battlefield 6 open beta will require PC players to turn on Secure Boot on their systems. The developers also mentioned that if the game detects that their system does not have Secure Boot turned on, a prompt will pop up regarding its necessity.
The developers insist that players turn this on, as it helps combat the following forms of cheating:
- Kernel-Level Cheats and Rootkits
- Memory Manipulation and Injection
- Spoofing and Hardware ID Manipulation
- Virtual Machines and Emulation
- Tampering with Anti-Cheat Systems
Additionally, EA also mentioned that turning this on allows the “Battlefield Positive Play team use its own features and related dependent security features.” The developers also talked about their new anticheat system, the EA Javelin Anticheat, which was built from the ground up by a team of veteran engineers and analysts.
Together with this announcement, EA also released a pretty hefty document containing information on how to turn on Secure Boot for each motherboard manufacturer. Secure Boot is available on Windows 10 and Windows 11.
Battlefield 6 will conduct its first open beta test on Aug. 9-10, with the next one happening in the same month but from Aug. 14 to 17. The game will be available for the PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. Battlefield 6 is expected to fully release on Oct. 10, 2025.
