Rockstar Reportedly Planning to Include Age Verification on GTA Online and GTA 6 Online

Key points
- A Rockstar insider has said that the studio is planning to implement an age verification feature for GTA Online and GTA 6 Online.
- This added feature is most likely due to the UK’s Online Safety Act.
- It’s unclear whether the feature will only be available in select territories or worldwide.
Rockstar Games seems to have been looking for a way to implement an age check in GTA Online and presumably GTA 6 Online in the future, as a Rockstar insider has spotted a piece of code in GTA Online that indicates age verification.
Tez2, the aforementioned insider, has posted their findings on X for everyone to check out. They mentioned that these age checks are going to be rolled out in the future and will be implemented by region. They also added that not being able to verify a player’s age might lead to certain features such as phone messages, text chat and Snapmatic being blocked until they pass the age verification.
This addition is most likely due to the UK requiring age checks as part of its Online Safety Act. While it is currently optional, the act will be fully implemented next year, allowing companies time to be able to adjust to the new law.
When asked if the age verification would only be implemented in the UK, the insider didn’t provide a clear answer. However, since the developers can target specific regions, it’s unclear where else it would be implemented. The UK version will most likely be the first one to receive the feature.
