A large-scale DLC is coming for Dynasty Warriors: Origins as a celebration of the franchise’s 25th anniversary. On top of that, according to an announcement from the series’ publisher, Koei Tecmo, a remaster of one of the nine previous titles is in the works.
It is worth noting that Koei Tecmo, as well as the developer of the series, Omega Force, consider the second part of the series, 2000’s Dynasty Warriors 2 (known in Japan as Shin Sangokumusō), as the initial part of the franchise, because the very first installment, 1997’s Dynasty Warriors (known in the Land of the Rising Sun as Sangokumusō), differs greatly in genre and style from the series, as the franchise changed direction starting with the second part.
The latest installment in the series, Dynasty Warriors: Origins, was released for PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X|S on January 17, 2025.
Like other entries in the Dynasty Warriors series, Dynasty Warriors: Origins is based on the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms.
As of the time of writing, Dynasty Warriors: Origins has a Very Positive rating on Steam with 14,974 reviews and an all-time peak of 69,483 players, according to Steam DB.
As of August 2025, the Dynasty Warriors franchise has sold over 65 million units worldwide, making it Koei Tecmo’s best-selling series.
