The Horizon franchise has sold over 38 million copies worldwide, according to a report from Eurogamer, which spotted the data in the filings related to Sony’s lawsuit against Tencent, claiming copyright infringement of the Horizon IP.

Created by Guerrilla Games Horizon series of games includes two main entries, each with its own DLC, a title exclusively made for PS VR2, a Lego video game, and a remaster of the very first installment.

The very first title in the series, Horizon Zero Dawn, was initially released as a PlayStation 4 exclusive in 2017. That same year, the game received a DLC titled The Frozen Wilds. In 2020, the game was ported to Windows PC, becoming the first PlayStation exclusive to arrive on Microsoft Windows. The remaster of the game was released for PlayStation 5 and Windows PC on October 23, 2024. Horizon Zero Dawn received 20 accolades in different categories across multiple industry-acclaimed awards ceremonies.

The second major installment of the franchise, Horizon Forbidden West, was released in February 2022 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, and was ported to Windows PC in March 2024. An expansion for the game, Burning Shores, was released in April 2023. The sequel received 9 accolades in different categories across multiple industry-acclaimed awards ceremonies and 6 honorable mentions.

Released in 2024, Lego Horizon Adventures retells the story of Horizon Zero Dawn in an upbeat and family-friendly way, significantly downplaying the apocalyptic story of the original while focusing on environmental messages and Aloy’s connections with her family and friends.

Two main installments, their expansions, and the Lego title in the Horizon video game series follow Aloy, a young hunter in a world overrun by machines, who sets out to uncover secrets of her birth and save the world.

Released in 2023 VR title, Horizon Call of the Mountain, is the only game in the franchise to feature a protagonist other than Aloy and is played from a first-person perspective. In this game, players assume the role of Ryas, a former Shadow Carja rebel. The story unfolds with his release from prison and his arrival at the settlement of Dawn’s Grasp, where he meets Blameless Marad and Aloy who give him chance at redemption: to earn a full pardon for his crimes, he must climb Sunspear mountain and find out what is wrong with the machines there.
