Key points
  1. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers’ latest optimization patch is now under fire for misleading its players.
  2. According to a tech YouTuber, the developers have simply prevented players from reaching native resolution with the game.
  3. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is currently suffering from a “Mostly Negative” review score on Steam.

On July 27, 2025, YouTuber Daniel Owen uploaded a video talking about the newest optimization patch of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers and how it potentially lies to the players regarding the optimization the developers have really done with the game.

The 20-minute video compares the performance of the game from its launch version to its latest 1.4 version. The YouTuber did this by writing down the FPS of the game at certain percentages in the oversampling resolution bar. It’s worth noting that his PC used an Nvidia GTX 3060 to better show the gains of the patch using a lower-spec PC.

Why optimize when you can just lie?

What he found is that at a 100% oversampling resolution, there was a significant improvement. However, at 67%, 59% and 50%, there was only about a 2fps improvement across TSR, DLSS and FSR upscalers. DLSS has been the one that’s pretty telling, too.

Owen saw that at launch, at 100% oversampling resolution using DLSS, the game only gave 28fps. After updating the game to patch 1.4, it jumped up to 45fps, which is the same as its 67% oversampling resolution result at launch.

This led Owen to conclude that the developers have probably fiddled with the game’s oversampling resolution to prevent players from reaching the game’s native resolution, or the 100% oversampling resolution — not to mention the fact that it was obvious to him that the game had gotten a little bit pixelated.

He also added that since the developers have prevented all its players from achieving native resolution, those who have the strong hardware to be able to run it at that resolution do not have that option anymore.

Wuchang: Fallen Feathers developers have been receiving backlash from players regarding its PC optimization. They recently released a patch claiming to optimize the game; however, players quickly found out about the trickery behind it.

The game is currently suffering from a “Mostly Negative” review score on Steam despite critics giving it a generally favorable review on Metacritic. Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was released on July 24, 2025, for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
