The Outer Worlds 2 Reverses Initial Price, Launches at $70

|
- The Outer Worlds 2 has reversed its initial price of $80 in favor of $70.
- The game was Xbox’s first $80 game before the announcement.
- The Outer Worlds 2 is expected to be released on Oct. 30, 2025.
On July 23, Obsidian Entertainment announced its intention to walk back its previous announcement of having The Outer Worlds 2 release at $80. The game’s price announcement marked Microsoft’s first game to release at such a high price point, even reaching $100 for the game’s premium edition.
“We at the Earth Directorate have worked with [REDACTED] to revise the price of The Outer Worlds 2,” the developers mentioned in the announcement. They also added that they are doing this “as an organization devoted to making sure that corporations do not go unfettered.”
Games reaching $80 in retail have been a recent development in the video game industry. A few years ago, video games cost $60 maximum. However, ballooning costs of development have led to them recently reaching $70 and even $80, such as in the case of Mario Kart World. Since then, companies have been experimenting with pricing their games higher than the standard price a couple of years ago.
The Outer Worlds 2 is expected to release on Oct. 30, 2025, for the PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The game will also be available on the Game Pass on its release day.
