Sony signed a strategic business alliance agreement with Bandai Namco and reported the news in the form of a press release on its official site on July 24, 2025.
Under this agreement, the company behind PlayStation acquired 16 million Bandai Namco shares for approximately 68 billion Japanese yen, which, as of the time of writing, equaled $435.2 million. Following the purchase, Sony became a stockholder, owning about 2.5% of the total issued shares of Bandai Namco.
According to the press release, the two companies will focus efforts on expanding anime and manga IPs.
While the press release didn’t outline the exact IPs the companies will be working on in collaboration, both entities have a lot of anime and manga game IPs that can profit from such a partnership.
As of July 2025, Bandai Namco’s market capitalization was about $21.5 billion, while Sony’s was approximately $151.66 billion.
