Donkey Kong Bananza reached the top of the UK chart (physical sales), according to Christopher Dring, Editor-in-Chief and Co-Founder of The Game Business, who revealed the news via a post on X (formerly Twitter).
The game launched as an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17, 2025, at a price of $69.99 for both digital and physical editions.
Developed and published by Nintendo, Donkey Kong Bananza is a 3D platformer adventure with tons of destructible environmental elements, set far from the shores of DK Isle, with the story unfolding as Donkey Kong pursues the thieves of Banandium Gems.
The new Donkey Kong title became the second exclusive for Nintendo’s new console, following Mario Kart World which was a launch title for Nintendo Switch 2 and released on June 5, 2025 priced at $79.99 for digital copy and $90 for physical.
According to Dring, Donkey Kong Bananza‘s launch is three times bigger than the previous original Donkey Kong title, 2014’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. Dring also highlighted that Donkey Kong Bananza‘s release success is less than half of Nintendo’s previous big platformer, Super Mario Odyssey.
