- Bungie is reportedly handing out invitations to an upcoming Marathon closed playtest.
- The playtest is set to start on July 25 and end on July 27.
- Marathon’s developers have acknowledged that the game used plagiarized content from another artist.
On July 16, 2025, The Game Post published a report claiming that a Marathon closed playtest will be happening later this month. According to the outlet, the developers are already handing out invitations.
Bungie seems to want to push through with the game’s tests while it works on the auditing of all its art assets used in Marathon after players found that the development team had plagiarized some of it.
The developers acknowledged the problem two months ago, on May 17, 2025, and confirmed that a previous Marathon designer had plagiarized some creations of a graphic artist named Antireal. A month later, Bungie announced that the game was going to be delayed indefinitely.
The Game Post mentioned that the closed playtest 2 will happen on July 25 and last until July 27. It will run between 2 pm and 6 pm PT daily. The outlet also said that this playtest is most likely to be under a strict NDA, just like the previous tests. There is no information on whether the test is limited only to specific regions of the world.
