Donkey Kong Bananza launched as an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch 2 on July 17, 2025. The game comes at a price of $69.99 for both digital and physical editions.
Developed and published by Nintendo, Donkey Kong Bananza is a 3D platformer adventure featuring an open world with tons of destructible elements.
The game is set far from the shores of DK Isle, as Donkey Kong travels to the mines on Ingot Isle to get some golden banana-shaped diamonds called Banandium Gems and sees the company VoidCo., led by Void Kong, sweeping up the gems and sinking the Banandium mine underground with their ship. In pursuit of the Banandium thieves, Donkey Kong encounters a talking, living rock, who decides to join him after he rescues it.
The game allows players to control Donkey Kong and collect the Banandium Gems while exploring sandbox-like levels, each created with a unique theme, including ice, lava and tropical biomes.
Donkey Kong Bananza became the first Donkey Kong title that Nintendo has developed internally since 2004’s Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. The game was developed by the same company department that was behind Super Mario Odyssey. On top of that, Bananza launched as the first original Donkey Kong game since 2014’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and the first 3D platformer since 1999’s Donkey Kong 64.
As of the time of writing, Donkey Kong Bananza has a Metascore of 91 points based on 83 critic reviews.
