Metaphor: ReFantazio Reaches 2M Copies Sold Worldwide

On July 16, 2025, Atlus West posted on its official X account that Metaphor: ReFantazio has reached 2 million copies sold worldwide. The post was accompanied by an illustration of the main character by Shigenori Soejima, the game’s character designer.
Metaphor: ReFantazio is a JRPG developed by Studio Zero and published by Sega. The game became Atlus’s fastest-selling game as it sold 1 million copies on the day it was released. Not only that, the game also won awards from different shows.
At the Game Awards 2025, the game won “Best Narrative,” “Best Art Direction” and “Best Role-Playing Game.” It was also nominated for “Game of the Year.” At the 21st British Academy Games Awards, it won “Best Narrative.”
Critics have also sung praises for the game. On Metacritic, all versions of the game have scored above 90, which lands it in the “Universal Acclaim” category and one of 2024’s highest-rated video games.
Metaphor: ReFantazio was released on Oct. 11, 2024, for the PC, PlayStation 4 and 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Recently, Xbox has been collaborating with the game, releasing an exclusive controller and a dynamic background for the Xbox Series X|S.
