The Rise of the Golden Idol received a new DLC titled The Age of Restraint on July 15, 2025.
The expansion launched at a price of $5.99 and was also included in the Detective Pass. The new DLC is the third in the series, following The Lemurian Phoenix and The Sins of New Wells.
For the first time in the series, The Age of Restraint introduced an alien setting in a world dominated by technology, featuring four new scenarios to solve.
A sequel to 2022’s puzzle game The Case of the Golden Idol, this title was developed by Color Gray Games and published by Playstack on November 12, 2024.
Similar to its predecessor, The Rise of the Golden Idol presents players with interactive frozen crime scenes that depict a murder or other crime event requiring investigation. To complete a scene, players need to interact with characters, objects and texts to identify relevant keywords to solve the case.
The game is available on macOS and Windows PCs, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5, as well as on both Android and iOS platforms. The Rise of the Golden Idol also used to be playable via Netflix but got delisted from its catalog along with 21 other titles.
