High on Life became available on PC, Xbox Cloud, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S for subscribers of Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Game Pass Standard on July 15, 2025.
The comedic first-person shooter was developed and published by Squanch Games, the studio founded by “Rick and Morty” co-creator Justin Roiland, which previously created 2016’s Accounting, 2018’s Dr. Splorchy Presents: Space Heroes and 2019’s Trover Saves the Universe.
In High on Life, players assume the role of a recent high school graduate thrust into the role of an intergalactic bounty hunter with a team of five living, chatty guns called Gatlians and one sentient, talkative knife. The game’s plot unfolds as the alien G3 Cartel invades Earth with plans to convert humans into drugs.
High on Life has a DLC titled High on Knife, set two years after the events of the main game.
Besides Xbox, the game also released for PlayStation 4 and 5 and Nintendo Switch.
As of the time of writing, High on Life has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with 16,223 reviews.
On June 8, 2025, a sequel titled High on Life 2 was officially announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025. The second part of the series is scheduled for release in winter 2025-2026.
