11 Bit Studios announced on X that its recent game, The Alters, has sold 280,000 copies less than a month after its release. Additionally, the developers also confirmed that the game has reached 1 million wishlists on Steam.
Late last month, the studio faced backlash from players accusing them of using generative AI without disclosing it. The developers promptly responded, confirming that they have been using generative AI in the game’s development, but only as temporary WIPs during the development process.
The Alters is a survival game that puts players in the shoes of Jan Dolski, a space miner. Players will need to create alternate versions of Jan throughout their playthrough, which is where the name of the game came from.
The game was released in June 2025 for the PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. At launch, the game received positive reviews from outlets, according to Metacritic. One thing to note is that this game is also available on Game Pass, which means that those subscribed to the plan can play the game free of charge.
