Mafia: The Old Country gathered more than 2.5 million wishlists across all the platforms the game is set to release on, including Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 and Windows PC, according to a grateful announcement on the Mafia game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account on July 2, 2025.
Developed by Hangar 13 and published by 2K, the game is slated for release on Aug. 8, 2025.
Based around the origins of the Sicilian Mafia, a prequel to 2002’s first Mafia title and the fourth main entry in the series, the upcoming game is set in Sicily during the 1900s in the fictional town of San Celeste, which was previously featured in 2010’s Mafia II.
Mafia: The Old Country is a third-person, linear, narrative-driven title that follows the story of protagonist Enzo Favara on his path from a childhood of indentured labor in Sicily’s sulfur mines to joining the Torrisi crime family.
The recommended system requirements for the game, as listed on its Steam page, include Windows 10 or 11 as the operating system, an AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or Intel Core i7-12700K processor, 32 GB of RAM and either an AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT or Nvidia RTX 3080 Ti graphics card. The game requires DirectX 12, 55 GB of available storage space and a system with a 64-bit processor and operating system. An SSD is required, and the recommended settings are a high graphics preset at 1440p resolution.
As of the time of writing, the Mafia video game series has sold over 35 million copies globally.
