A spin-off of the Mana series developed and published by Square, Legend of Mana was initially released in 1999. It is set in the fictional world of Fa’Diel and allows players to control a hero tasked with restoring the world and bringing the Mana Tree back to its former self.
While incorporating ARPG elements from prior games in the franchise, such as real-time battles, Legend of Mana has its own distinct style of gameplay and gives players the ability to shape the world’s structure through the Land Make system, generating regions and quests in a non-linear way without following a strong main plotline.
Trials of Mana, the 2020 3D remake of the 1995 title of the same name and the third game in the Mana series, follows six possible protagonists on their respective quests, which lead them to obtain the Mana Sword and fight a world-ending threat. The game surpassed 1 million units sold globally within its first year after release.
As of March 2024, the Mana series, which includes 14 major titles, two remakes and one anthology collection, has sold over 9 million copies worldwide.
