Man Faces Dozen Felony Charges for $10K Worth of Stolen Switch Games From California Libraries

Jamal Reed-Obafumi, 45, of Oakland was arrested by Marin County Sheriff’s detectives on June 17, 2025, as he was connected to a series of at least seven different burglaries of Marin County Libraries.
According to an official statement posted on the Marin County Sheriff’s Office Facebook page, which was spotted by GameSpot, between April and June 2025, Reed-Obafumi stole about $10,000 worth of Nintendo Switch game cartridges. According to the post, he is currently facing 12 felony charges, including multiple counts of burglary and committing a felony while out on bail.
“Our libraries are pillars of the community and must be safeguarded for everyone to enjoy!” declared the Marin County Sheriff’s Office in the statement.
At the time of writing, it remains unknown if any of the games were recovered.
The news comes just a week after Gaming.News reported that 2,810 Nintendo Switch 2 consoles worth $1.25 million were declared stolen.
