- Gigabyte’s latest RGB update has been bricking its motherboards for quite some time now.
- An X user shared their experience with the update, which led to them utilizing the board’s warranty.
- Users are advised not to update their boards until further notice.
An RGB firmware update from Gigabyte has been bricking its motherboard, according to various reports from its users. An X user by the name of Charlie has documented their experience with the update and how it bricked their motherboard.
According to them, they downloaded an update called the “GIGABYTE IT5701/5720” and installed it on the motherboard because the update claimed it would support Microsoft Dynamic Lighting, a feature that controls a user’s lighting on their peripheral devices as well as some of their motherboard components.
After they’ve installed the update, they found out that their board has been bricked. Charlie said that dynamic light is not working, and the RGB on their board has died. They also found out that since the update broke the chip, it won’t be able to do BIOS Flashback.
One of the bigger problems they’ve mentioned is that even though they shut down the PC, the CPU fan is still spinning, indicating that the system is not properly functioning. They tried flashing the BIOS and doing everything they could to fix it, but they mentioned that there’s nothing to be done and that they’re just going to Gigabyte and try to get their board fixed since it still has warranty.
According to a report by Tom’s Hardware, a quick search regarding this update will reveal that a lot of Gigabyte users have bricked or damaged their boards beyond repair. Since the Taiwanese company still has not provided any statement regarding the RGB update, the outlet has advised users of the Gigabyte 600/700 series motherboard not to install the update.
