Nintendo Switch 2 broke the all-time launch week sales record for gaming hardware in the US, previously held by the PlayStation 4, reaching over 1.1 million units sold during the week ending June 7, 2025. Notably, this number excludes sales from the My Nintendo Store, according to data revealed by Mat Piscatella, executive director and video game industry analyst at Circana.
According to Circana Retail Tracking Service, 79% of US Nintendo Switch 2 buyers purchased Mario Kart World, either as part of the bundle with the console or as a physical copy.
Kart racing title Mario Kart World was developed and published by Nintendo as an exclusive title for Nintendo Switch 2, priced at $79.99 for the digital copy and $89.99 for the physical copy, which is $20 more than the standard price for games on the original Nintendo Switch.
Cyberpunk 2077 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom follow Mario Kart World as the second and third best-selling Switch 2 physical video games, respectively, for the week ending June 7, 2025.
One of the major new features of the Nintendo Switch 2, besides magnetically connecting Joy-Con controllers that can function as a mouse with full mouse control support, is the C-button, which is designed specifically for navigating Nintendo’s analog of Discord, titled GameChat, allowing a group of up to 12 players to chat and share screens during collaborative play.
Nintendo Switch 2 sales began on June 5, 2025, at the original price of $449.99, as announced during the Nintendo Direct: Nintendo Switch 2 livestream on April 4, 2025. Notably, unlike the price of the console and the Switch 2 bundle with Mario Kart World, the cost of all accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2 has increased, reflecting an effort to evaluate the potential impact of Trump’s tariffs.
