Nexus Mods has changed hands as its founder, Robin “Dark0ne” Scott, announced that he is stepping back from the day-to-day, 24-year-long management of the site and has transferred ownership.

As of the time of writing, according to the data presented on the site’s front page, Nexus Mods has 63.4 million registered members, hosts over 716.000 mods and supports 3,146 games.

As one of the reasons for Nexus Mods changing hands, Scott highlighted that he had been burning out as the project became a regular source of anxiety and stress-related health issues for him.

He also assured that, despite upcoming structural updates to the company’s ownership, Nexus Mods will remain a community-first and mod-author-focused project.

Scott also stated that he will stay present on the Mod Author Discord and will continue working with the project’s team of 40 to help guide the overall direction of NexusMods.

Initially project of Nexus Mods was founded in 2001 as Morrowind Chronicles, a The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind fan site. Then with the addition of hosting mods for Morrowind it was renamed in Morrowind Source. The site’s rebranding continued as it expanded to support more games, from TESSource to TESNexus and then to The Nexus, until it finally became Nexus Mods.

According to data from Nexus Mods, the site has seen about 16.8 billion downloads and has paid approximately $12.6 million to mod creators.
