Fallout Shelter Hits Over 230M Downloads on Its 10th Anniversary

Fallout Shelter has seen over 230 million downloads in total since its launch in June 2015, according to a celebratory post dedicated to the title’s ten-year anniversary.

Developed by Bethesda Game Studios, with assistance from Behaviour Interactive, and published by Bethesda Softworks, Fallout Shelter was released for iOS devices in June 2015, and two months later, it landed on Android devices. The game also got a port for Windows PC in July 2016, an Xbox One version in February 2017, and in June 2018, it reached Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4. On top of that, Fallout Shelter became available on Tesla vehicles in 2020 via Tesla Arcade.

In Fallout Shelter, players assume the role of a leader and coordinator titled Overseer, tasked with building and effectively managing one of many fallout shelters called Vaults. In the game, players guide and direct the dwellers, citizens of the Vault, assigning them to different jobs, trying to keep their emotional status at a happy level, while also balancing power, food, and water supply. The Overseer can train dwellers in each of the SPECIAL (Strength, Perception, Endurance, Charisma, Intelligence, Agility and Luck) abilities, making them more suited for different jobs in the Vault or for adventures in the wasteland.

To celebrate the game’s ten-year anniversary, Bethesda will award everyone who logs into the game during the period June 16–June 21, 2025, as follows:

• 2 Lunchboxes, 1 Pet Carrier, 10 Nuka (June 16 – June 17);
• 3 Lunchboxes, 1 Mr. Handy, 15 Nuka (June 18 – June 19);
• 5 Lunchboxes, 1 Pet Carrier, 20 (June 20 – June 21).

The title won the Best Mobile Game award at the 33rd Golden Joystick Awards and Mobile Game of the Year at the 19th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards.

As of the time of writing, Fallout Shelter has a “Very Positive” rating on Steam with 74,409 reviews and an all-time peak of 42,656 concurrent players, according to SteamDB.
